What a fun golf course!!


How unusual to have the flat and very upscale suburbs of Den Haag and then the very abrupt huge dune lands with the winds and the salty smell of the the Nordzee!!


I'm smitten with Nederlands!!

Thanks, Malcolm.  One of the great highs of the Dutch BUDA was playing at Royal Hague, it's a wonderful, bold course which makes brilliant use of the dunes.  I must get back.

Wow, I'd heard from various sources that the tree removal at RH was dramatic, and it surely is.


I have the course as number 2 in continental Europe, behind only Morfontaine. A wonderful place.

That's the first cartoon depiction of Royal Hague I've ever seen. Pretty interesting.


You really had some great weather on your trip. Again a very very benign day you ran into at Royal Hague. I've played it many times and can't remember playing when the flags were still as in your photos.


Judging by your ball positions I think you are quite a good player so I imagine you really enjoyed Royal Hague. It can be tough on the first go to not get beat up by these courses a bit. Glad you had a good time.

When is the last time you've seen it? How many years ago? It's really gone through a major transformation even since I hosted the Buda. They have removed so many trees and cleared out so many bushes and brought back tons of natural dunes land. Not too mention the fact that they really figured out the firm and fast conditions and completely turned around their turf on the greens which was simply brilliant all of last year. You said you have it at number 2, out of curiosity, how far down does your European ranking go?

Not many holes in golf with consecutive shots as scary as the 14th -not without relying on water anyway.


It's a brilliant place and with Morfontaine one of my two favourite courses in Europe.

Thanks for sharing Malcolm. Looks to be a real roller-coaster of a links, unusually so perhaps. The photos remind me in places of Burnham & Berrow.

Royal Hague is a wonderful golf course, somewhere I hope to return to in the future.


It appears from the photos posted above that they are in the process of transitioning certain areas (No. 7 & 16) to a more exposure dunes landscape which the club has successfully incorporated in the past.

How much tree clearance has taken place?  I was led to believe the course was a forest.

Sean - it was never a forest, not like the tree holes at Noordwijk, but they have cut down a hell of a lot

Plenty of room of the tee, in fact 18 is the only hole with trees bordering both sides of fairway.

Tyler is definitely right here, no tree issues at all at Royal Hague. The little bit they had have all been really thinned out and they keep going. They have also been aggressively returning many of the open dune areas and heavily cleaning out vegetation.


Course is in great shape and having a pretty good idea of your tastes I think you will like it a lot but find it a tough walk up and down all the dunes. Played Saturday and gearing up for another 36 there on Tuesday. That will be a tiring day and about the 20 hole my legs will be kind of wishing they had buggies for 2nd 18's.
