David,
I've been to the course a couple of times, once during construction and once more recently. My impressions are consistent with those of Jason and Jim, and from my conversation with Mr. Pott I believe they're still pondering what the eventual format for the operations will be. They completed their permitting in warp-speed for this part of the country (less than a year), which has everything to do with the section of Langtry used for the golf course being in located in Lake County as Jim points out. The site has a number of wetlands, and I suspect it's the combination of desiring to get the permitting completed quickly and the wetlands that resulted in the noticeable number of bridges and long carries.
I agree with Jim that this is an attractive location -- for a certain type of golf project at least. Seems to me one of few remaining locations in the greater Bay Area in which a sensibly planned "enthusiast" golf project would stand a chance of being realized in a sympathetic manner, which is largely why I've been roaming the back roads of that particular countryside.
