I agree with Kilspindie and Gullane 3, but also want to mention that Elie has a Ladies 9 that would be a good warm-up for him if he wants to then play the full Elie course.

It occurs to me that Musselburgh Old would also be a good choice.

Get in touch with Alfie Ward and play a round with him at some primitive course, Leadhills or the like, with hickories and gutties. He's such good company and will inspire your son.

The 9 hole course at Elie isn't a Ladies 9, it's for the juniors.  Technically it isn't part of the club but is owned by Elie Sports Club.  To be honest it's rather too straightforward now for my 15 year old twins, who aren't THAT keen golfers and certainly aren't long.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Thanks for all the tips. We had a fabulous visit with great fun had especially at Kilspindie and Crail. Also Musselburgh (me playing hickories vs Frank playing Pings) and Gullane (note #3 is not at all easy when it's windy - it plays quite narrow) and finally 27 holes at the Himalayas that I needed to win to tie the series. I can heartily recommend the Golf Inn in Gullane as a base in Lothian.

Jon - Kilspindie is a favourite of mine especially on day one after an early start and flight. We love the Old Clubhouse for dinner in Gullane as well.

Well done Lloyd.

Upon reviewing my post I wondered whether Gullane 3 might prove a bit tight. Generally OK but I suppose depends on the rough. I was thinking of the carry off the tees at the time of posting.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed yourself. Where's next for the youngsters education ?
