Wait.  The greens on the big course were originally 50% bigger?!

Howard - thanks so much (and of course to Josh for his work). I still can't believe that I read was I did -- i.e. that for a course and an architect as important and researched and loved as Augusta and Dr Mac there could still be something new to uncover after 80 years...and something so striking!

Will enjoy dipping back into that over and over again.

The King of the Links strikes again.  Kudos to Josh Pettit for this find, and I'd guess there's a ton more to be found in the Olmstead archives.

To answer Jud's question, think about the holes that have had the greens completely moved (7, 10 and 16) and also holes like 9 where their shapes have been altered.

That is the part that stood out to me!

I guess I am not very good at topic headlines...

The routing for El Boqueron is also fascinating.

If I read the map correctly, it appears it could still be built?

The current short course is really nothing special.

Very nice work by Josh.
Coincidentally, unbeknownst to each other, our very own Mark Bourgeois was delving deep into the Olmsted Archives and made the same discovery. So a hat tip to you too Mark B !

Yes, great work Josh! Neil that's nice of you to say but I am a distant second in every regard. Full credit to Josh for the discovery and more importantly for getting it in print and online. A nice gift for all of us on the eve of the Masters. The comparison to El Boqueron is particularly interesting, isn't it?

Who wrote the piece, or is it actually a historical document by Robert Hunter?

The best I can tell, the National Park Service opened the Olmsted archives in Brookline in 1980. How did it take more than 30 years for these ANGC plans to surface? Was it finding a needle in the haystack or a lack of GCA enthusiasts looking for the plans?

This collection of materials in Brookline doesn't even include the bulk of the firm's earlier correspondence (ca. 1885-1950) that's located at the Library of Congress. I wonder what other gems can be discovered there.

Kudos to Josh for digging and doing some fine research along the way! Funny that both he and Mark Bourgeois were doing the same research but sepertated by a couple thousand miles. Josh shared with me some of his findings and a couple weeks later in a chance meeting I met Mark for the first time over breakfast and looked at what he had found.

Small world!
