Thanks for the photos WG. Much more undulating terrain than I’d expected.

Different for you though, Jeff.

My US trips are more based around classic parkland / inland courses as I can play links golf every day of the week.

If I were to do a resort trip, it would probably be East Coast first. Maybe Cabot or Pinehurst.

Ally,

If you pick North Carolina, let me know so we can try to connect. I would enjoy hosting you at Hope Valley. And I am sorry that the pandemic prevented us from meeting up in Dublin this month.

I've been to the resort several times and would certainly agree it doesn't feel connected to the town in any meaningful way.  Other than the fact its more than 5+ miles away from the main area of Bandon, most out of area folks fly in to Portland and drive down from the north and likely never see the town.

Throw in discount round pricing for staying at on site lodging and preferred tee times, with the various restaurants and other on site activities, seems pretty clear they encourage staying on property for the entire visit.

Its not a negative on the place at all, it still has a special/ magical quality to it every visit.

I've got a graphic, relevant to this topic, I'd like to share if someone can coach me on how to post an image.

Inexplicable.  Why would a member of North Berwick with easy access to the greatest links right in his backyard travel a full day for a faux experience?  Maybe once in a lifetime, but twice in four years?  I guess that there is great truth in the adage about the grass being greener on the other side of the pasture,  But we are talking about a lot of pasture here.

I’m going for the meatloaf, the golf’s just incidental. If I could afford it Lou I’d make a yearly pilgrimage.

This is a video I made demonstrating the process 5+ years ago.  Still relevant, though Photobucket is not really a common upload site any more (they went to a pay model and got abandoned by everyone).

I use https://postimages.org/ as a quick and easy single photo upload site.  I will post a quick video on how to use it, instead of Photobucket.

Here is the video that goes with the above picture.  Note that there is a "picture" icon above for posting pictures, but it never seems to work for me.  Also, just to amplify...at the beginning of the link, you need to add [imq] and at the end [/imq] ...substituting a 'g' for the 'q' in the text I just used.

Pete,

-I don't think taking a few pics because we are having fun rises to the level of riot gear and policeman.
-Beautiful Oregon is now entering Phase 2 in most counties and we have the 4th lowest incidence of the virus of any state.
-The hospitals are empty and all my doc friends don't have the science to support 72" anyway, politics.
-I've been walking 2 miles each way to the office and back everyday for 3 months and giving thumbs up to every police person I see.
-Much more worried about our society, civil war, and anarchy.
-Stay healthy and stay home Pete

Faux experience? What you talking about man?

William,

Thanks for posting thoughts / photos!

Lou, it is funny, I did have that thought for a while, but the pull there is proving too strong. I like the idea of staying in one place and getting to play 6 fantastic golf courses without driving. I am just about ready to pull the trigger on booking a trip, but am waiting for the 14-day quarantine to lift here, and then I'll be booking.

In addition to London > Portland, I see that KLM also goes from Amsterdam, which is easy to get to from Edinburgh!
