He's a crack at courses that I think could host it today.  I tried to avoid courses that were just too remote to make hosting feasible, for example, anything in the sand hills of Nebraska.

Arizona: We Ko Pa Saguro
California: San Francisco Golf Club
Delaware: Wilmington CC
Florida: Streamsong Red
Georgia: Sea Island
Maryland: Caves Valley
Massachusetts: Boston Golf Club
Michigan: Crystal Downs
New Jersey: Atlantic City CC
New York: West Chester CC
South Carolina: Yeamans Hall
Tennessee: Honors Course
Texas: Austin Golf Club
Virginia: Kinloch
PA: Fox Chapel GC

And a bonus 16, Philly (because the rest of PA wont have it): Philly Cricket

No point in listing personal favorites, nor modern courses, when there are so many prestigious old-line clubs that want to host.  USGA politics rule this selection; it's doubtful you'll find a host site that doesn't have a member on the Selection Committee or among the current officers of the USGA.  I don't know how many my list will be -- certainly not enough to cover the next 60 years of U.S. sites -- but here are some places that might have the clout to get it someday:

Peachtree Golf Club, GA
San Francisco Golf Club, CA
Cherry Hills, CO
Hazeltine National, MN
Milwaukee CC, WI
Champions GC, TX
Plainfield CC, NJ
Quaker Ridge, NY
Aronimink, PA

Bandon Dunes Resort, OR - the only modern venue on my list, and there only because Mike Keiser has a lot of respect within the USGA and will host other events too.  No idea which course they would use.  Give it another 15-20 years.  The only other modern venue I could see would be Austin Golf Club, if they wanted it.

Tom,

Curious as to why you think they'd return to Quaker Ridge prior to returning to other prior host venues.

And, Quaker Ridge has no practice range, which was typical of AWT courses.

Ignore this man...he's new to golf. Please give your favorites and their states. There is a point to this exercise, which I will reveal down the road.

Tom is spot on, when describing how the sites are determined for this event.  Perhaps a few moderns could sneak in there.

San Francisco GC - CA
Cherry Hills CC - CO
Pacific Dunes - OR
St. Louis CC - MO
Shoreacres - IL
Sand Hills - NE (while a modern design, the strength of the course and the membership help SH make my list)
Crystal Downs - MI
Camargo Club - OH
Yeamans Hall - SC
Peachtree GC -GA
Newport - RI
Guelph Mills - PA
Myopia Hunt - MA
Ekwanok - VT
Yale - CT
