David,

I believe that there were tornado warnings in the area and that a severe micro burst hit Ridgewood.

I've seen pictures of the damage, which was significant, especially compared to nearby towns which had high winds but no damage.

Fortunately, it was Monday and late in the day so most courses were closed and no one was hurt.

What I like about he tree removal as that no Board or membership approval was required and that the only cost will be cleanup costs ;D

Was this the Almighty's way of reminding the club's members that their present Greens Chairman should be full-time? ;D 8)

PS  Steve Scott and myself were over playing in 35-40mph winds and sideways rain at Quaker Ridge for the Met-PGA Pro-President. Needless to say it was quite a extreme weather day for golf yesterday.

I hope the club was insured. Several years ago, I was working with a club and they were hit by Mircobust and lost 120+ large trees(which weren't missed), but thier insurance policy protected the value of the trees up to $5,000 per tree. They received proceeds well into the six figures. I believe Zurich was the provider, but several companies have policies written around country clubs that cover storm damage.

I don't have time for a full explanation now, but here is the summary.

It was in fact a tornado.

No one was hurt.

The tree damage was greater than Sandy in number of trees but less damage than Sandy to the majestic oaks on the course.

Our super Todd is very professional and has dealt with significant tree damage before.

He are already has several tree crews on the course today addressing the damage.

Work has already started to repair damaged green, fairway and tee areas.

The Club is insured.

More to follow later.

Cheers, Mike
