New Superintendent at Golf de Morfontaine, France
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:36:36 AM »
I’m proud to announce that Jon White, our first assistant here at Golf de Joyenval, has accepted the position of Golf Course Superintendent at Golf de Morfontaine, effective 20 June, 2011.

Originally from Reading, England, Jon is one of the elite few greenkeepers to have worked and studied on both sides of the Atlantic. Previous to Joyenval he trained at St. Georges Hill in Surrey, and Waverly Golf Club in Massachusetts, while he has studied both in the U.K. and at Rutgers University. He’s an excellent golfer and long off the tee besides.

Designed by Tom Simpson in 1913, Morfontaine is considered to be among the top tier of golf clubs not only in France, but on the Continent, and it is one of Europe’s architectural jewels.

Jon will be sorely missed at Joyenval, but we have no doubt that he will achieve the greatest success in his new post, and Morfontaine members and visitors alike will enjoy optimal course conditions in the years to come.

Speaking of conditions, the north of France has been suffering through a drought for the past six-week and counting. With government imposed water restrictions coming into effect, golfers can expect Morfontaine and most other venues in the area to be playing exceptionally firm and fast.

And if anyone knows any French-speaking greenkeepers, I need a new assistant.

I m going to play Morfontaine in a few weeks, is Jon White still there?  I would love to meet him and discuss being an english speaking greenkeeper in a french speaking club.

Jon is still there. I haven't been to Morfontaine for a year, but by all reports the course conditions are steadily improving. If you want some of Jon's time, better give him some notice. He has a small staff and runs himself ragged trying to get everything done.
