I'd be much obliged if you could advise what height in mm the fairways and fringes are cut to at your club.

There is quite a bit of consternation regarding the cut height of the fairways and the fringes where I normally play so I'm attempting to get a general measure of what is done elsewhere.

Thanks in anticipation.

All the best.

Thomas - were are you located and what type of grass? I have the specifications at my former club in the office and can track them down if you would like me to do so.  It is a midwest parkland course in the US.

Jason,

Thank you for pointing this out as I really should have mentioned it in my original post. I'm in the UK and the course is parkland/annual meadow grass. I am though, interested generally in this matter from various angles including maintenance, wear and tear, playability etc.

All the best.

Bent grass...7/16 fairway, 1/4 approaches about 40 yards out and collars...RHE...fairly common I think

We mow fairways at 12mm and first cut of rough at 25mm. (1/2 inch and 1 inch respectively)
The small wheel turns by the fire and rod,
the big wheel turns by the grace of God.

Fairways Summer 10-12mm, Winter 15mm
Tees/Approaches Summer 8-10mm, Winter 15mm
Rough 50mm all year round

Thomas, these figures would suit the Annual Medow just fine. Any idea what heights your fairways are?
What is their consternation?

Thomas - unfortunately, I could not find our standards.  If I find them, I will add them to this thread.

Thank you all for the information and thanks Jason for trying to find the standards.

Without wishing to be disrespectful to any particular standard of player, at this private members club where the the lessor skilled players who, as they are only to happy to say, like longer grass to 'help them get the ball in the air' are in the vast majority so the better players are frustrated as they want tighter cut fairways etc. Hence the consternation. An old dilema I guess.

All the best.

Brian, I couldn't agree with you more. I wish all clubs could adopt the type of approach you mention. Most I've visited seem to, but alas there are still some that seem to wish to remain in the dark ages.

All the best.
