Not really. Scottish Open you get clothing, free parking work 4 hour shift and have full 5 day pass. That is what it should be. The USGA could comfortably afford to be a little more generous but seem to just lack class :o

I'm volunteering at the practice area on the West course.  Should be awesome to see the pros practice up close and personal.
I live out-of-state and just got the kit.  Nice jacket and hat; shirts are ok. 
Any GCA get-together announced that I may have missed???

Does anyone know if you have a single day ticket will it allow leaving and re-entering on that day?

Edit:  to answer my own post, yes, you can re-enter (I believe a max of 4 'visits' per day).

My Dad has volunteered at multiple USGA-run events, as well as several run by the PGA. He much prefers the way the USGA runs their events.

One of the huge issues with volunteer work force is of course that people may not show up. The fee is at least partly to help weed out those who wouldn't take the job seriously. As someone earlier mentioned, one way to deal with that would be to refund the fee assuming all shifts were worked. On the other hand, from what I have been told, the food, clothes, and etc provided are well worth the expense.
