A friend passed along this neat Kickstarter project and I couldn't help but imagine the denizens of the DG would be interested: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nomo/golf-course-screen-print-series?ref=city

All the 2013 Major sites + Pebble and Pine Valley with the promise of more to come.

Disclaimer:  I have no connection to the artist, financial or otherwise - just sharing something cool.  8)

Yeah, these are really cool.

I had never done a Kickstarter before, but these are cool enough to make me sign up.

Very cool indeed. Is it a possible IP infringement in using the courses' name?

The Chicago artist also has a nice selection of other work.

And possibly a trademark infringement for Josh to sort through:

Not bad,  but I wonder if he had seen this, he would still slag off the current state of golf art...

Sorry boys, but this is Not that impressive. I studied art in college with a focus in Printmaking.

This guys prints dont quite do it for me for 2 reasons...

1: SIZE. 2ft x 2ft is really small. Its not like painting where adding size takes exponentially more time, thus costing more. The only cost for making bigger prints is paper, so relatively very small. You would lose all the details at this small a size. Big is absolutely the way to go for prints... these dont even come close to poster size.

2: TEXTURE. Printmaking, especially screen printing is a very flat medium due to the way ink is applied. What this artist has done through the filters and fills he has used through digitizing it is eliminate virtually all the texture. If you look at the 1 detail you see he has a patterned fill to represent some sort of vegetation, however due to the size he has chosen, you will lose all of the effects unless you are standing with your face straight infront of the print.

Don't you think that purchasing a series of 3 prints makes up for the small size and that is his intent. Also, these prints are certainly not intended to show small detaisl just general routing, hazards, fairways, greens, trees/sand..I think he does that.

But I respect your opinion...and you might be right

Jaeger, I disagree with you here, bud.  These prints are really well-designed.  Simple, informative, uncluttered, strong contrast, yet balanced, and a nice monochrome color scheme.  They don't need to be detailed to get their point across, but they're detailed enough with bunkering, exact green and fairway shapes, hydrology, and tree lines to keep you interested once you're looking at them up close.  The white on green pops from across a room and draws the viewer in.  Then when they get their face in front of the print they find all the little nuances.

No need to make these bigger.  They're unique right now.  They offer a take on golf course routing that no one else is offering.  One can stand on it's own or 3+ can create a striking piece.  What's the upside of going bigger?  Room for more detail?  Why do that when it would just become like every other routing map out there.  Making something bigger is usually just a cop out to save a poor design.  Ironically, it just ends up emphasizing how bad the work really is.
