The Berkshire 28 June

I play in a society which has an annual meeting at the Berkshire.  This year the meeting is on Friday 28 June, which is the Friday after the Berkshire Trophy, so both courses should be in great nick.  A round on each course, fabulous lunch and afternoon tea to follow clocks in at £170.  Not cheap but a really good day out and pretty good value in today's world.  We have a few spaces so, does anyone fancy joining us for the day?

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

An invitation not to be passed up if you can make it. Hell of a place and comfortably worth the price of admission.

... have you been to Walton Heath? Berkshire has some cool holes, but I dont think either one of the courses is on the same level as the other two "Big Clubs". The balanced 6-6-6 routing on the red is interesting, but I found it very hard to remember the holes, and as someone who can recall nearly every golf hole I see, I dont think it bodes well for the quality of design.

In The Berkshire's favour is the difference between the two courses. Extremely different layouts. Rare to get such difference at the one club. The Red is all about the greens and angles, then the Blue is very much a driving course. Quite different routings, too. And both have about half of the best 10-12 holes on the property.

And that's before you consider lunch, which is outstanding. I still remember that piece of treacle pudding the size of my head!

Enjoy - I am playing it next Wednesday on the same format - really looking forward to it as I can't remember too much of the Red, It doesn't get much better than a day at The Berkshire
