Woman on the Tour--Part two
« on: July 24, 2003, 07:28:29 PM »
Suzy finishes the first round at the Harford--

The good news(for Suzy fans) she finishes 5 over, and beats David Duvall, who shoots an 83 by 8 shoots(talk about a slump)

The bad news, she is tied for 138th out of 150 golfers and only about 6 shot higher scores--

Didn't watch it, but Suzy appears to be a really classy lady going by pictures of her on various internet websites. 75 is much better than I thought she would do and I hope she does well tomorrow.

David Duval = Ian Baker Finch? I think he may well be done.

The next time I see her smile I'm going to throw up all over pro shop.

This is what she looks like after every shot, including bad ones...

She can smile all she wants!
She is not miserable out there, instead, she is having fun. I hope she breaks par today.

At the end of Golf Central last night one announcer said, "Annika taught the PGA Tour players that women can play, now if Suzy could only teach the PGA Tour players how to smile." :)  Why shouldn't she be enjoying it and smiling?

Finishing with a birdie on one of the hardest holes on the course was pretty good.  If it wasn't for the nervous 3-putt from just a couple of feet on the first hole it would been a very good round for her.

Next year she will have a choice of tees, and it should be interesting.

Now a woman member can choose to play from the same tees as the men, or from the women's tees (10% shorter).  If they shoot the lowest score from either tee, they will be considered champion of the section.  However, the spot in the local PGA Tour tournament is awarded to the lowest score from the back tees.

Well, well, well...look who is behind Whaley as of 9 holes on Friday.  None other than John Riegger, the journeyman pro who challenged Annika Sorenstam to a $1 million one-on-one match.

Better WD before she beats you, John! ::)

Don't get me wrong, being a club professional myself I am rooting for her.  I hope she makes the cut.  I doubt she will but she's got my support.

However, her smile, while refreshing and nice to see, isn't necessary after a 3 putt double bogey.  Her media coach really drilled that one into her.

Jeff, I met Suzy a couple of years ago when I was working the Futures, that smile seems to be there all the time.  Nothing to do with a media coach, just a very pleasant person.

JohnV,

You're probably right, but I just like venting my envy of her playing in it and I'm not.   ;)

Even if it is something that she does all the time with or without the help of a media coach, I just can't see smiling after a 3 putt double bogey unless it meant that I just won a tournament.  Is it possible for her to get mad?

Just my opinion.

Jeff, Ask her husband, I'm sure he must have found a way. ;)  As nervous as she probably was, she was probably happy that her heart didn't stop so a three-putt might have seemed relatively mild punishment.

When Suzy finishes, be sure to compare her scores to recent efforts by CT. PGA Sectional winners.

I think her 75 keeps her well in the top 25% of her colleagues' scores.
