Bunker Drainage/Liners
« on: June 28, 2013, 11:02:18 AM »
With Powell’s wonderful thread on PCC’s renovation of the Wissahickon course, it has me thinking about the next project at our course: the renovation of our bunkers.

When we underwent our grass conversion two summers ago, we redid two of our bunkers and tried a relatively new drainage/liner combination, and we’ve been very pleased with the results.

That said, interested in the results, opinions and recommendations the group has regarding drainage/liners that they’ve used. Good, bad or indifferent......

Used them all.  The latest hot trend is the Better Billy Bunker, which my clients seem most favorably impressed with, if they can get past the cost.  Second fave is Bunker Solutions, another expensive option calling for a white astroturf type material as liner.  It's much more durable than the standard fabrics, or appears to be.  All the other fabric liners are cheaper options, but believed not to last as long, so the lifetime cost may be similar.

That is the real problem with any liner method, no one really has even ten years of data on any of them, other than the early fabrics, which didn't hold up, and have been improved.
