Mike Strantz remodel of MPCC (sketches)
« on: July 17, 2003, 01:37:39 PM »
I discovered these color sketches from the hand of Mike Strantz on his website.  www.mikestrantzdesign.com

Pretty cool stuff from his remodel of MPCC!!

Check it out....if it works?

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Michael,

I saw these a few days ago myself on his web site, but didn't
think of posting them at the time (I had seen them in person in December).  These renderings are basically what won Strantz the contract to re-do the Shore course (and the fact that he promised to live out there full time for the duration to be onsite everyday).

Wonderful set of sketches, the concepts look really good.

It made me think that it has been 8 years since we used to do these. While the computer is faster, nothing beats the "warmth" of a well drawn sketch.

They are truly beautiful the more I look at them. There are a couple of other architects who also have an art background too. Cupp is the only one that springs to mind right now.

Thanks for posting them.

Any significance to the trees which appear to be "whited out"?  Senor Huntley?

Strantz used to have a habit of riding the site on his horse every day.  If he's still doing that, the horse should love the climate and terrain!

Ken.
I've asked myself the same question.

The bunker to the left of the 7th green has been eliminated.

The 14th is really quite different and improved.

I think that most of you know I am not into hyperbole, but from what I have seen so far, we are in for a stunningly beautiful course.

This one:

Bob,

Why?  That was one of the features I liked the most in these pics.

I have to admit fault here too Scott. Bob had alerted me to the drawings a few months ago, and I was going to post them, and just didn't get around to it. So, thanks for posting them Michael.

I have to say that course looks like it is going to be stunning, simply because I'm told Strantz has this really good ability to build exactly what he draws, which is a very good thing since he is of such a deft and memorable hand. From what I have seen of Strantz work, and how he and Forrest go about building it, I more then think I would be a huge fan. In fact, its ashame because there were some who certainly alienated Mike and Forrest a few years back with some ungracious comments on Tot Hill Farm. What looked as if they were going to be regular particpants here on GCA ended with some pretty harsh words for the two, and that wasn't a good thing.

In fact, I hope to see the course in a couple of 2-2 1/2 weeks while on my way back down from Oregano (a very fast trip, with some golf along the way.)

I think what I like about Strantz the most is that he really seems to be a Mac Head like myself and it shows in his drawings, that natural influence. This might be too bold for me to say, but the drawings sem to have been inspried by a certain book of B&W images of a near-by course of some worthy mention. It also shows that he and Forrest have a good time while building their courses, and that has to stand for something also.

I only played one Strantz course, but I am very impressed by both his drawing and pictures of his courses. I look forward to playing each and everyone. I think they are all on the east coast, and all public except for Bulls Bay?
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

When is Mike's remodel scheduled to open?
And I took full blame then, and retain such now.  My utter ignorance in not trumpeting a course I have never seen remains inexcusable.
