Let's see some Master Plans...
« on: July 06, 2012, 10:32:17 AM »
Master Plans are great fun to admire and to study what an architect that has taken the time to understand the course believes is best for the particular course. I thought it would be interesting to post various master plans (preferrably renovations/restorations) for future reference and study.

Here are a couple:

Northland Country Club, Duluth, MN (Prichard):

Flossmoor Country Club, IL (Hearn)

Rick Shefchik should have that Northland plan framed, on the wall of his "writing room" (wherever that might be).

It's beautiful.

Ron Prichard always does such a great job artistically with his plans - they're beautiful. I'm fortunate to have a few that I 'begged' him to send to me. They're definitely keepsakes.

The ASGCA have this link to a number of their members and their Masterplans:

http://www.asgca.org/MSU.aspx?Show=golfarchitects.lib.msu.edu

There are some good ones here, especially from Brian Silva and co.  Not in colour but really informative and easy to read as well as understand.

Anyone know what happened to the link above and if said master plans are still saved someplace on the internet?

The trouble with modern equipment and distance—and I don't see anyone pointing this out—is that it robs from the player's experience. - Mickey Wright

There is SO much difference between printing your ideas on a pretty map of an existing course, and actually being able to change the features of the course without anybody being able to tell that you did anything.  And, unfortunately, not too many guys are really good at both.
