Myopia Hunt Club
« on: May 30, 2012, 08:09:14 PM »
My club's professional is playing in an event at this venerable club next week.  I was wondering if any of you folks could impart any
advice or recommend any previous posts to look over.  Thanks.

Go to the practice round thread, Myopia doesn't allow practice rounds or let anyone see the course.  :D

Tell him to take plenty of club on 3- as hard a par 3 as you will find anywhere. Greens can be brutally quick especially if the wind is blowing. Also the first hole is not a hole to get aggressive off the tee- just a hybrid and sw is the prudent play. Guys that try to drive the green and tug it left are in for a tough start.

As I recall, GCA-er Brad Tufts has a wealth of information and insight on Myopia.

RDecker:

I pretty much know Myopia like the back of my hand.

Tell your club professional if he has never played or seen Myopia to just ramp up his strategic sensibilities and concentration to include on holes and particularly greens that have some significant slope to them to just try to keep his approach shots on the low side to pins. If he gets his approaches on the high side (either chipping or putting) he will have some problems if the greens are 11 or over and particularly if the greens are firm.

Myopia appears to be a push-over if one just looks at the total card or the length of some of the holes but because of the foregoing it just isn't a push-over even for good players (this is actually why I think the course has always produced some of the finest and most unique golf architecture there is----eg it's all about some quite subtle nuances).

If you want some of the greens to really watch out for and why I'll be glad to provide it for you or for him.

He had played the course several years ago in a Mass Open, but doesn't remember alot of the course.  I may get a chance to walk along with him if it's permitted.  Would love to see the place and appreciate all the help from everyone.
