Is it me or were the trees the savior of the tournament this year?

It seems like there are a number of hard driving holes on the back 9 - 10, 11, 17 and 18 caused trouble for the pros.

Is it me or were there more balls in the trees on 18 than I ever remember before? Especially the first 3 days?

Seemed to be lots of balls in the right trees.  I saw very few in the left fw bunker.

I don't mind 18 as a finisher.  We have seen players bogey it and lose (Len Mattiace, Norman), and birdie it to win.  Mickelson, O'Meara and Schwartzel (off the top of my head) all needed a 3 to win and got it done.

As trees mature, they get bigger and intrude further into the corridors of play.

When you factor in the added length, which was achieved vis a vis chute like corridors, it's easy to see why more balls find themselves amongst the trees.

Some of those tee shots from the back tee are frightening.
