Accomodations Around Carne, Enniscrone and Sligo
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:19:32 AM »
I am headed to Ireland for a 10 day trip the first week of June.  We decided to include a visit to Carne, Enniscrone and Sligo after Ballybunnion and Lahinch.

We need suggestions on a place for four to stay near Carne and Sligo.  Thanks.

Hi Folks,

Found a place in Belmullet near Carne.  Still need some help in Sligo/Rosses Point for a reliable B&B.

Also need some ideas for a night in Dublin.

Thanks very much.

I can vouch for the Portmarnock Hotel, but its obviously outside the city.

The course there is underrated too I think.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

There is a pretty big hotel up in Malahide near The Island that is a good place to stay. Might be called The Malahide Hotel actually.

I was on the trip with Ian and would second the Ice House -- one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed in. We ate in town that night -- about 10 minutes away. Can't recall the name, but it was quite good. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Sligo - we ate at Donaghy's Bar
The Coach Lane upstairs was recommended but we couldn't get in - food was killer in the pub anyway.
I bet its even better upstairs!

Balina, we ate at the Market Kitchen - also recommended by staff at Ice House
the food was great too

Hope that helps.

Thank you.  The Ice House looks amazing.  I will check that out.  Was it a good base for Sligo/Rosses Point as well?

Looking for something in the heart of Dublin for our last night of the trip-noon flight the next day.  We were in Dublin the night of the national hurling championship in 2005 featuring Cork vs Kerry and saw plenty of hurling-in the bathroom of the Arlington Hotel and Bar where there was quite a good party going on in the main bar.

We stayed at the Clarence in Dublin which is very nice and very centrally located:

Fitzwilliam or Shelbourne in Dublin if you don't mind spending a bit. Good locations.

Ballina where The Ice House is located is a very cool fishing town west of Enniscrone on the way to Carne. Sligo is east of Enniscrone.

I would stay in either Enniscrone (beach vibe town) or Ballina (fishing vibe town) and split the difference between Carne and Sligo. The village around Sligo is also very cool (golf vibe as the clubhouse sits basically in the beach section of town), but it makes the drive to Carne very long.

If your into remote, stay in Carne. It feels like you are halfway back to the USA.

I felt that way at Connemara...was waiting to see a Maine lobster boat pull up and ask "which way to East Vassalboro?"
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

We stayed in Enniscrone (B&B)  and drove to Sligo and Carne on a daily basis. It's a bit of a drive but doable.

Years ago I stayed at Mount Falcon, about 7 miles south of The Ice House. I loved it. It has since been taken over by new owners and looks as good as ever.

You'll find the owner / manager here is a golf fan I believe... I'd be interested to hear your playing schedule once it's pencilled in...
