my course has a ton of above the hole bunker and they are without a doubt harder.   They are structured in a way that you are virtually guaranteed to have a downhill lie from above the hole.

In most cases, you have to try to hit it ridiculuously higher, land it on the fringe and hope.

Pat,

I would certainly agree that a downhill lie in a bunker above the green is about as bad as it gets.  I've always felt the bunker behind 16 green at Pac Dunes is a brutal bunker and makes an already difficult hole even more brutal.

Kalen, that bunker at 16 at Pac Dunes is the first thing I thought of when I saw Pat's post.  It certainly is a brutal place to be.

I've always wondered if Tom was pissed at the world when he decided on that hole location with surrounding swales/bunkers
