2011 Engineers Restoration improvements

Slowly, but surely the course continues to evolve.  The bunker work is a compromise on not having enough labor hours to maintain the islands on a very tight budget.  The islands were covered with a sand liner and a few strands of saw grass was planted.  The top area can be quickly raked from the bunker pro.  The tree removal results should be obvious.

And the entire treeline was removed between the 5th and 8th holes.  Tree removal in this area is very difficult due to town politics.  Where Engineers needs to remove trees most desperately, the holes are located in the town of Roslyn Harbor.  This town has an ordinance which requires trees with trunks larger than 8 inches have town approval for removal, and unauthorized removal is subject to a $2500 fine per tree and required tree replacement.  Dead trees are the only exception.  Fortunately, the trees near the 8th green and 5th tee are probably in Glen Head and so they were finally removed.  This is looking across the 7th green and from the 8th tee looking at the 8th, 5th tee and 4th greens/

"Dead" trees are the only exception to the removal law? What about dying trees?

Bill:

We straddled the same town line on our recent North Shore project.  The strict town just doesn't want to give an inch on the matter.
