Very OT - A TS Eliot quote
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:48:38 PM »
I used a snippet from Eliot in another post, and an on-line friend sent me one from the chorus of Eliot's pageant play "The Rock":

And the wind shall say: “Here were decent godless people:
Their only monument the asphalt road
And a thousand lost golf balls.”

There's a course up in Ontario cottage country called The Rock, designed by Nick Faldo. Apparently quite tough, though I don't think you lose balls there as much as have them ricochet off the native rocks that line the narrow fairways.

Is this the way the world ends, with all your balls lost?

For me it might be all my marbles, Bill.

But to answer your question: as long as The Old Course (and Old Macdonald) are around, I think we're safe!

Peter,
To tie that quote from The Rock to The Rock of Nick Faldo really rocks!

I wonder if any of this quote resonates with John Kavanaugh him being deep into tarmacadam and golf!

Cheers Colin

God gave us two hands. One to turn the page on dead poets while the other cups our balls. I prefer to drink and text while looking at the harvest moon.
