My Western Nebraska (+Ballyneal) Dream 18
« on: July 08, 2011, 11:00:17 AM »
Having now played Bayside, Wild Horse, Awarii Dunes, The Prairie Club, Dismal River, Sand Hills and Ballyneal I thought I’d try to come up with my ‘Dream 18’.  I thought this would take me a few minutes, but two hours later I was still going over the list, making changes and realizing there are several good choices for each hole.  Here’s what I came up with, curious to hear other’s thoughts.

Hole 1: Sand Hills, Par 5, 548 Yards

Hole 2: The Prairie Club (Dunes), Par 4, 478 Yards

Hole 3: There are three really good short 3s for number 3.  3-way tie: Ballyneal, Par 3, 145 Yards; The Prairie Club (Pines), Par 3, 168 Yards; Dismal River, Par 3, 150 Yards

Hole 4: Sand Hills, Par 4, 485 Yards

Hole 5: Wild Horse, Par 4, 367 Yards

Hole 6: The Prairie Club (Pines), Par 3, 159 Yards

Hole 7: Ballyneal, Par 4, 352 Yards

Hole 8: Ballyneal, Par 5, 515 Yards

Hole 9: Dismal River, Par 5, 610 Yards

Front 9: Par 37, 3664 Yards

Hole 10: Ballyneal, Par 4, 510 Yards

Hole 11: The Prairie Club (Dunes), Par 4, 364 Yards

Hole 12: Ballyneal, Par 4, 375 Yards

Hole 13: Sand Hills, Par 3, 230 Yards

Hole 14: Dismal River, Par 4, 515 Yards

Hole 15: Ballyneal, Par 3, 237 Yards

Hole 16: Sand Hills, Par 5, 612 Yards

Hole 17: Sand Hills, Par 3, 150 Yards

Hole 18: Dismal River, Par 5, 520 Yards

Back 9: Par 35, 3522 Yards

Total: Par 72, 7,186 Yards

Looking at the holes I chose, I find it interesting that I chose zero mid-length par 3 or par 4s.  There are no par 4s between 375 yards and 485 yards.  I guess this isn’t a very practical golf course, but oh well.

The rundown:
Ballyneal: 6 Holes
Sand Hills: 5 Holes
Dismal River: 4 Holes
Prairie Club (Dunes): 2 Holes
Prairie Club (Pines): 2 Holes
Wild Horse: 1 Hole

Interesting exercise. I don't think anyone could argue with a single one of your choices. And most are probably seriously jealous of your trip. But, I'm not one of them.  :o

I would add that your numbers are all from the tips. So, you could easily get in a mid-length par 4 by playing a more forward tee.  ;)

Mark - that would be an interesting walk.  Maybe a fundraiser with a combo Colton and Forrest Gump!

Everyone, Mark would probably be under par on that routing too!
