Interesting article on the Altoona PA Cricket Club golf course history:

http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/content.detail/id/550120/Area-s-first-golf-course--Altoona-Cricket-Club--was-laid-out-in-1897.html?nav=751

No mention is made of an architect. Any one know anything about this course?
"Some of us worship in churches, some in synagogues, some on golf courses ... "  Adlai Stevenson
Hyman Roth to Michael Corleone: "We're bigger than US Steel."
Ben Hogan “The most important shot in golf is the next one”

Steve, I'm betting that the answer is somewhere in the archives of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

My grandparents all lived in Altoona in that time frame and it had a bustling economy due to the PRR and its maintennace shops..  but it was a "workers" town, not surprizing the Cricket Club died out in the 1930's.

Is the Horseshoe Curve still there?

Steve - yep, the curve is still there and is used many times every day.   Their AA baseball team is called the Altoona Curve.
