Tobacco Road, Pinehurst, Raleigh??
« on: April 18, 2011, 04:02:15 PM »
Has anyone heard if any course sustained any damage? I watched the Today Show this morning and a Lowe's in Sanford got demolished from the tornados. Thoughts are prayers to those living in the area. My parents have a condo just off #5, but it apparently escaped damage there.

I just played TR and was wondering the same thing.  TR's website says they didn't have any tornado damage and they're open for play.

I was thinking the same thing when watching that news yesterday.  With as big of an outbreak as those mulitple storms were, one could hardly imagine that some of the many courses in that area had heavy damage, with all the pine forest and other treed properties.  17 fatalities across the paths of destruction in two days is a terrible series of storms.  The worst of this is we are just entering the most frequent and widespread of the tornado season.  One never gets used to it...  :-[
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Everything is ok for the most part.  I've heard some unsubstantiated rumors that Tobacco Road had some damage to the clubhouse, but I heard that from somebody in the pro shop at Whispering Pines so probably just a rumor.  The tornado did level the Lowe's in Sanford and took out the generator in the city's water plant so we had to boil our water for a day.  17 people at my wife's company lost their homes.  The tornado cut right through the middle of downtown Sanford!  The tornado didn't get near any of the courses in Pinehurst.  At my house in Sanford we got some penny sized hail but luckily we were several miles north of the tornado.
