Anybody been out to Chambers Bay recently?
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:23:38 PM »
I'm heading out to Seattle in a couple weeks for a long weekend and have a tee time at Chambers Bay. I've glanced at the weather forecast a few times in the last month and it looks like it's been cold and even more rain/snow than normal. I'm just curious if anyone's been out there recently and can comment on the shape of the course...and if this is a bad time of the year to play it? I'm planning on bringing some heavy duy rain gear...

Thanks.

I would think that if you can deal with the weather that the course is very playable anytime as it is built in a sand pit and the sandy soil should easily absorb all the moisture.  Richard Choi is the guy who should have the definitive answer.

Pat - I played it last year right around this time.  I was pleased with the shape it was in - nice a firm.  This winter has been no wetter that I can tell, although lately it has been pretty cool.

Last year I am pretty sure I played in short sleeves, it was a gorgeous day.  If you want to play the course, I would say that you shouldn't let the time of year discourage you.

Course should not be a problem with superb drainage, which is at least equal with than Bandon. The train derailment has been cleared and no more lye has leaked. As far as weather is concerned, the La Nina pattern is weakening but will still prevail into May. Expect wetter and cooler than normal.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ever since watching the US Am last summer I've been trying my best to get out there to see the course. I'll play regardless of the weather, but here is hoping for sun and 65* :) ;)

Pete:

I didn't know there was a train derailment in the area...I'll have to google that.

I played March 30th of last year and it wasn't wet at all.  The greens were a bit slow, but not terribly slow, and the course was in otherwise good shape.

Pat, my kind of golfer.   Although I don't know that anything will be open on March 30 in the Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Sorry, I have not been out to CB this year yet. The weather has been just really crappy (wet and cold). Chambers should still be very playable. It is the driest course around. If it is too wet to play there, other courses wouldn't even be operating.

Yeah, that's a big negative for March 30th in Minneapolis! But hopefully the golf season up there will start soon after...

Thanks Richard. Forecast for the next 10 days looks nasty in the Seattle area. But then again 45* is pretty hot considering the winter we just went through in Chicago!
