Darwin's comment on Silloth
« on: February 21, 2011, 05:46:11 AM »
I just read Lorne Smith's review of Silloth on fis Fine Golf website.  In it, he concludes by quoting the conclusion of Bernard Darwin's account of his first visit there:

"I never more violently fell in love with a course at first sight"

I thought Scott Warren might appreciate that!
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

That sums my affection for the course up perfectly. Thanks for posting that comment.

I have to say, I have never felt so much anticipation for someone else to play a golf course as I feel for Sean to see Silloth in June. But by the same token I don't want to build it up too much.

I know what you mean.  If Sean doesn't love it then I'll probably be more disappointed than he is!
