« on: December 25, 2022, 07:57:14 PM »
There are now quite a number (several dozen!) of SWWOG episodes available on youtube, both from the 1960's and the 1990's. You can find them here:

One of the best is The Old Course — when No. 17 was played as a par-5.

Forrest -

Unfortunately, I can't find the Henry Cotton vs. Gene Sarazen episode on the Old Course from 1962 on youtube. The Azinger vs. Ballesteros match at St. Andrews (1995) is available in 2 parts:

What I would love to find is Gay Brewer v Harold Henning at Harlech in 1967 - a TV game recorded around the time of the Vicenzo Hoylake Open. Henry Longhurst was involved but not sure if this was a Shell WWoG or something different for the BBC.

When I look at one of these episodes I’m usually amused by the conditioning of courses back then in comparison to today. Oh how expectations, set-up and maintenance changes techniques have changed. $$$$ spent too.
To see how a particular course has changed over the decades is also interesting.

There are several matches that I would be fascinated to see for the course where it was played.  The most notable one is the match at Kawana Fuji.  My guess is that Korai looked different in the 1960s.

The Player-Thomson match at Royal Melbourne was fascinating to me because the texture of the grasses was so much different when compared to today.  Some of it may have been due to the time of year that match was played.  The last time I watched this match was upstairs with a group of members at Royal Melbourne.
