Much of the Myrtle Beach area is within 60 minutes of about 100 other golf courses.  Granted, there aren't any courses on the order of the Bandon courses, but Caledonia, True Blue, Heritage, a couple of the Legends golf courses, not to mention the Dunes Club and Wachesaw Plantation if you have some access.

Myrtle Beach is absolutely one of the American golf meccas, just not for the GCA crowd (which, lest we forget, for better or worse, comprises an exceedingly small percentage of the avid golf population).

Thanks Tim.

Yes tons of golf in Myrtle Beach.

Given Bandon is only 11 plus years old with "its all about the golf" it has incredibly reached farther into the golfer's mind than Myrtle Beach ever could.
It's all about the golf!

Question do they have and use carts ?

Melvyn

At Bandon, there are no carts. I had a stress fracture of my ankle and was not allowed a cart. I walked 36 a day in some fairly constant pain because the golf was THAT good.

Actually, there are a very small number of carts to accommodate someone who really needs one, same as at Muirfield or Rye.  But they are very hard to arrange (hard enough Jim didn't even know of them!) and the caddie has to drive it so you won't accidentally drive off the cliff.  They have to have at least a couple of carts by law, because it is a public facility and it must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Actually I knew about them because I had a note from my doctor saying I had to ride a cart, but when I spoke to the caddy master he told me they were for the truly handicapped so I could not get one. I prefer walking anyway and isn't that what painkillers are for?
