Brad-

Rarely do I see any courses in this area (West & North Texas, E. New Mexico) that overseed their bermudagrass fairways anymore.  Most have bent greens while those in the southern reaches w/ hybrid bermudagrass greens do overseed the greens, but normally w/ poa trivialis, not perennial rye (it transitions out more readily in the spring). My home course- Abilene CC- has bent greens and only overseeds the par 3 tees- quite a bit of play all winter. We also do no.1 tee, mainly because it sits right outside the dining room window(s).

A number of the higher end daily fee courses in the DFW area do overseed their fairways competing for play- they obviously feel that it makes economic sense for them.

Brad:  I vaguely remember the Tour playing on dormant fairways at TPC Starr Pass.

Brad,

I just returned from Reynolds Plantation.  Each year they overseed three of their courses and leave one dormant.  They plan on rotating the dormant course.  This year, it is the Plantation Course that was not overseeded.  Last year, it was Reynolds National (The Fazio).  We had one person tell us it is to allow one course to be open year round, while they have to briefly close the others after overseed.

And I took full blame then, and retain such now.  My utter ignorance in not trumpeting a course I have never seen remains inexcusable.

In Northern California, Ruby Hill, a LONG (7,400 yards+ from the tips) Nicklaus design does not overseed.  I also believe its the only course up there with bermuda, though it does have Crenshaw Bent greens.
