It's only halfway thru the second round and I'm already tired of hearing about the "patrons". Every other golf tournament on every other tour has a gallery.

Actually, the former Wachovia Championship, now the Quail Hollow Championship, cloned the "patrons" terminology from the Masters several years ago to describe their gallery, fans, spectators, etc.  . . . I now take that back to a degree.  I just took a look at the 2010 website for the Quail Hollow Championship and the major captions seem to prefer the term "spectators," although the term "patrons" continues to be used in the text of some of the sections.  For example, the following is under the "Spectator Services" tab: "A Patron Message Board will be available at the 1st Tee Information Center, which allows guests to leave messages for other guests in attendance."  Guests, Spectators, Patrons - now I am really confused.

Jeff,
Once you've been the Augusta for the Masters, you'll know that the difference is real and profound.  I've attended a number of events as a member of the gallery, but Augusta is a completely different experience.

You're treated like an adult and you're expected to act like an adult.  As an attendee, it's the antithesis of most all other golf events.

I have been there and its certainly better than putting up with the rowdies at Bethpage. My point is the silly hoops the club makes the broadcast teams jump thru.
