Fall Weekend Help
« on: July 11, 2009, 11:29:06 AM »
Well it doesn't look like I can go anywhere this summer.  A lot of work!  Anyone have any weekend golf getaway ideas for wife and me in the Northeast area? I would prefer to drive if possible.  I live in NJ and would like to get away in October for a weekend.

Rick,
The Equinox Resort in Manchester, VT. is 'New England'. It has a very nice course, there's great shopping in town (if you have to), good range of restaurants, and one of the most scenic car rides to the top of the mountain that you will find. Manchester is 3 1/2 hours from Paterson, NJ.

A bit farther up the road ,in Dorset,  is:

There are several golf choices in the area.

Rick:

Have you been to Cooperstown, NY?  Leatherstocking is a lot of fun and the area would likely be beautiful in the Fall.  There is a gorgeous old hotel and a lovely lake.

Just a thought,

Bart

Hershey Resort provides three good golf alternatives and a wonderful hotel and spa.

  Rick,

How far are you from Ashville NC? Your wife will marry you all over again if you take her to THe Grove Park Inn.

You can't go wrong with Manchester, VT. But if your wife is a very understanding woman and a resort-style locale isn't required, I would head to Hanover, NH, play Hanover CC over and over, and then go to a Dartmouth football game. Lots of great restaurants there, too. Nothing like a New England college town in the fall.

Rick,
The hardest part of planning your trip will be choosing from all the wonderful places.

One thing to keep in mind, once you choose a locale book it quick. Leaf peeping season is very popular and hotels fill up fast.

Cape Charles (Baycreek Golf Club) on Virginia's eastern shore.

Convenient to Jersey and won't break a guy with a budget.

Colonial Williamsburg is another alternative thart would be a good wife and child option with golf.

Williamsburg is a great option from NJ. You can hit a hidden gem- Mattaponi Springs- right off of 95, just south of Fredericksburg. Royal New Kent, Golden Horseshoe...what more does one need? There's even a Great Wolf Lodge thing for the kids close by.
