Final round of the Irish Open

I have really enjoyed watching some of the great shot making in challenging conditions at the Baltray.

There are some fun courses on the PGA Tour but rarely is there a spectacle like crazy winds and links golf to get an architecture junkie excited.

Not sure how the Treehouse would rate The Baltray, but it does look like a lot of fun to play.

If you are bored with the Valero, check out the final round of the Irish Open on Golf Channel - it's great craic!

Also brilliant to see a homegrown amateur doing so well.

I really like Baltray. As people will tell you, the highlights of the course are the green sites.

Rob, looking forward to the broadcast here in Scotland.  Love seeing 140 yard 3 irons to six feet!   Interesting to note that Baltray might be the first course co-designed by a woman!  Apparently Molly Gourlay worked with Simpson and is on recored as being paid for her design services.

Rob Rock played a lovely shot in the 3rd round into the breeze that got no more than about 3 feet off the ground & scuttled along the ground for the last 50 yards or so to leave him with a nice makeable birdie putt.

I really enjoyed the whole telecast version of the tournament!   The "random" bunkers on 18 seemed to make the playoff more interesting too.   Does anyone have more information on Molly Gourlay, the co-designer of the 1938 version of the course?  I knew a Gourlay in Canada who was course super at Thornhill GC, could be a relative.

Incidentally, the 18th was redesigned by Tom MacKenzie just a few years ago... I think those two centreline bunkers for the second shot certainly added a lot to the excitement of the hole, especially when played on four consecutive occasions...
