Faux pas
« on: January 31, 2009, 12:18:00 PM »
As a newbie, it seems that I’ve made a terrible faux pas by not introducing myself.

I am Mark Alexander. I work as freelance journalist and golf course photographer. I live in Fife and was brought up in St Andrews, so if anyone’s making the pilgrimage, please look me up.

If I had to play one last course before giving up golf for good, it would be The Eden, not necessarily because of its current incarnation but because that’s where I learned to play as boy, often practicing chip ‘n’ runs until past sundown.

I’ve enjoyed reading the comments on the website and now I hope to contribute to them.

Mark

Welcome to a great site, with a good bunch of guys who love their golf. You will I’m certain feel at home quickly and look forward to seeing some of your photos of local clubs and any chance of a few from Askernish when you make the trip over there.

Another man from the Kingdom, indeed most welcome – the rest will soon say Hi.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the site and it's great to have another friend from the Kingdom of Fife join us.

We need someone there on the ground to keep an eye on that scalawag Melvyn!  ;)  ;D

Welcome Mark,

As you are probably aware, we here at GCA.com would much rather partake of your pictures as we would your words...if the prolific use of emoticons is any indication.

Of course, I am being sarcastic and now feel the need to avoid using emoticons to convey that.

Welcome!

Mark,
welcome to the madness. Be great to see some of your work. Got a website?
You said in another thread you were 'over the hill from Glenrothes'. Where exactly are you?
It's great to have another Fife/Scottish/British/European GCAer on board. We need to keep these uppity colonials in their place... ;)
cheers,
FBD.
(In case you were wondering the FBD stands for FatBaldyDrummer - my original sign-in on this site oh so many years ago. There was a night of the long knives a while back when most of us started posting under our own names.)

PS Watch out for that Hancock bloke ;D

Mark Alexander:

I would certainly not say that your neglecting to introduce yourself on here should be considered a terrible faux pas.

As you may have noticed or will shortly, we on here do not exactly live and act by the code and etiquette of some Miss Manners manual.

But welcome to the party anyway where every day is like a barroom brawl in Dodge City on a Friday night just after the cowboys got paid!

Many thanks for your warm welcomes.
I'm sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner but my office descended into chaos as I tried to assemble a desk for my wife who I work with - it all looked so simple when I was walking around Ikea.
I few of you were wondering where you could see my work. I have a website but it's terrible, and the shots are embarrassingly out of date (if you've got nothing better to do, the address is www.thewordassociation.biz). It's abysmal.
Of more interest is the website we put together for Brian Phillips, who I'm sure you'll know (www.niblickgolfdesign.com). There is still some work to been done on it, but it would be great to get your thoughts.
