Clearly it's on the south coast, but the south coast of where?

Britain?

That is one interesting routing.  If that's a par 3 extreme right, then I see four par 3s -- each facing a different point on the compass.

Also, there look to be a fair number of "walk backs," implying some sort of "modernization" -- yet it appears to lack an irrigation system.

Also, those dark patches: gorse? Will you find much gorse on the Channel?

Lastly, to the north appear hole-like apparitions.

Nowhere near the Channel. A previously 9-hole course expanded within living memory.

Here's a hint. If you know UK from Google Earth you will know that much is now in Hi-res, but there are still areas of Lo-res (not to mention cloud cover over most of NE Scotland, including Cruden Bay). Why this outpost should be in Hi-res I cannot say, but its more illustrious neighbours are still not in Hi-res.

It would appear to be someplace where it does not rain all that often! ;)

I believe its the wonderfully named Wigtownshire County near Stranraer in the south west of Scotland, on the south Dumfries and Galloway coast. It took the clue of a stange outpost being hi res surrounded by lots of low res for me to start looking in the right place...

So Mark, tell us a bit about this place?

James, I don't know what it's like these days. I played it for the one and only time with my father as a 9-holer in the 1960s. Here's the website: http://www.wigtownshirecountygolfclub.com/

Anyway, you are right.
