Hey Matt.
Last time I visited Friar's Head, the clubhouse wasn't up yet and there was a forest of trees between the aforementioned holes, #1 and #9... again, to see the difference in the image taken at the 9th tee, with the trees down and the clubhouse there, is stunning.
Friar's Head is indeed an amazing place. Ken Bakst and all involved, most notably Coore and Crenshaw and their crew (Dave Axland, et al), as well as Bill Jones, golf course superintendent and staff, deserve a lot of credit for the thoughtfulness, talent, and patience they've shown throughout creation and continued development of Friar's Head.
