I was recently talking to friends about the massive growth in private southeast US courses being built, mostly in SC/GA but also in NC/FL, and naturally CP came up along with the other older, established and storied clubs.  Is there any current info on the course itself and now it might stand up relative to the new ones built or being discussed?

Cherokee is such a different place and vibe than all of the new courses being built.  I've had the pleasure to play there several times over the past few years.  So they have about 20 members all told but it is an amazing place that is much more than golf.  I know in the past couple of years they have replaced the fairways with zoysia grass to help playability and drainage. The course itself probably wouldn't end on a top100 list for a multitude of reasons but in reality, I doubt they care at all.  It is a fun, challenging course to play with some excellent holes.
