Seems like a nice exhibit. But it's a long 10 hour drive from Chicago, so I'm not sure I'm going to be able to see it this weekend  :)

How is this on topic though? I'm curious.

Tim, I'm assuming you've already been to the Barnes Foundation in the Philly 'burbs.  It has 69 paintings by Cezanne, not to mention lots of others:

The Barnes Foundation houses one of the finest collections of French Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early Modern paintings in the world, including an extraordinary number of masterpieces by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (181), Paul Cézanne (69), and Henri Matisse (59). The collection also includes important works by Pablo Picasso (46), Chaim Soutine (21), Henri Rousseau (18), Amedeo Modigliani (16), Edgar Degas (11), Vincent van Gogh (7), Georges Seurat (6), Edouard Manet (4), and Claude Monet (4).

Although renowned for its late 19th- and early 20th-century European paintings, the Foundation's collection also includes important examples of American paintings and works on paper, including works by Charles Demuth, William Glackens, and Maurice and Charles Prendergast; African sculpture; Native American ceramics, jewelry, and textiles; Asian paintings, prints, and sculptures; Medieval manuscripts and sculptures; Old Master paintings, including works by El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens, and Titian; ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art; and American and European decorative arts and metalwork.

Pat,

Minimalism, enhanced perspective, deception, composition and harmony are a few that come to mind that apply to golf course architecture.

Joe,

Thanks for the info. I have not been to Philly, except to play PV. Looks like I need to spend more time there.

Joe is spot on about the Barnes ... it is as if someone hand-picked, IMO, the masterpieces of the Modernists.

Story about Barnes' contentious relationship with the PMA is amusing ...  ask TPaul to spin that yarn.

A friend of mine visiting from England went there a few years back on a day I could not take off.  Later in the evening we met for dinner and he could not stop talking about the Barnes.  He said he'd seen so many of those Impressionist paintings through the years in books, but did not realize they were at the Barnes!

Probably my all-time fave is by pointillist George Seurat and is at the BF.  It must be seen in person to be fully appreciated:

Jen and I went last month to see the "Matisse and Beyond", which was a preliminary show to the Cezanne exhibit.

It was really put together cohesively, and I left with a lot of thoughts about ties to Golf Course Architecture which I hope to outline as time permits.
