Scott, surely you would rate Paraparaumu's 5th (~150y) and 16th (138y) among the very best par 3's in the world?

Now you really are taking this thread in a new direction. But I like this type of golf too. We used to play it as kids when our home course was quiet and we were bored hitting balls. I think they have a name for this type of golf?

Play TOC in reverse is a bit like this type of golf... and they have one hole that plays less than 150 (even though it says 162y on the card), and that's the 11th hole, played from the normal 9th tee to the 8th green. A particularly interesting hole because of the small roll that runs across the line of attack. And if the flag is on the small bit of green in front of that roll, it is a tough shot... especially in April when it's about 38 degree (F) and the wind is off the estuary!

Hi Scott,

I got in the habit of doing this very early on when my home course was not very interesting or challenging to play regularly.  Last summer I got playing a lot of evening golf at Hanover CC (NH) with a friend and we created our "championship" tees with our own brutal but very exciting routing.

Taking this same approach at a place like TOC would be a more memorable experience than playing the traditional routing.  We could imagine all the former captains of the R&A rolling in their graves as we try to blast drivers out of the valley of sin!  See you on the 18th green?

PBGC has 4 fantastic par 3's. I'd like to include both those two holes, but isn't the 5th more than 150y?

Prams 5th plays from 150 to 162 yards so thought I would include it.  In a good Southerly it plays to a 9 or wedge and then in a good Northerly I've hit a solid 4 iron.

One of the great characteristics of both these par 3's is that they are both bunkerless with relatively flat greens sitting on plateaued sand dunes.  A good solid shot is always rewarded with a makeable birdie putt, yet if you are wayward double or treble bogies are always lurking.

I am surprised the 11th at Plainfield has not been mentioned.  A truly great (and scary) short hole.

#3 at Yeamans also deserves a mention.  Nothing but fun.

FYI, I think #14 at Grandfather is over 150 yards from the back tees.  Bart Bradley will know for sure.

Yes, appears as though it is 160 from all the way back. I don't recall it ever playing that long but...

No. 3 at Spyglass, if you don't hit the green it's sand or iceplant.
Also no. 9 at Lake Chabot, at least a 100 ft. drop.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.
