Q. What is the green speed at Oak Hill for the PGA Championship?
A. a speed that's appropriate for the championship, given the slopes of the greens.
we don't feel it's appropriate to give out a number, given that other clubs may feel pressure to match that number

Mike Davis are you paying attention?
No more pie in the sky number quoted "target" numbers (14.5.15) that are never achieved anyway, but give members (however misinformed) fuel for the fire

I believe that grounds crew also revealed that some greens will stimp one-half foot less than others, given their degree of pitch/angle/slope. The competitors will know which ones, so it won't come as a surprise.

Agree completely Jeff. I remember when the Sr PGA was at Canterbury in 2009, they asked Kerry about green speeds and he said essentially the same thing. Championship speed. Excellent response to the question and his explanation on why he said what he said was spot on too.

#13 and #14, per Brad's article:

"...some of the greens, such as the punchbowl at the long, par-5 13th and the tiered surface on the short, drivable par-4 14th, are so sloped that they have limited hole locations. Most likely, these two greens will be a half-foot slower on the Stimpmeter, Haigh said."

Thanks, Howard. I knew that some pundit of great reputation must have been responsible for my edification.
