Doak's Confidential Guide???
« on: July 07, 2008, 07:59:07 AM »
I admit to not having read this great book cover to cover, but have read most of it. Since I am playing Garden City for the first time soon, I wanted to read his write up. So I read the write up of Garden City and in its place was a repeat of the Durban write up. Where can I get a copy of the GCGC write up and is this how all of the Confidential Guides came out? If this has been discussed before I apologize.

Ask not what GolfClubAtlas can do for you; ask what you can do for GolfClubAtlas.

I have the same version with the typo.
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Jim -

I have a copy with the GCGC "chapter".  If you'd like, I can scan it in and email it to you?

I read on Keith Foster's website that he had done a master plan for Garden City in 2006 and that the work might be done in 2009-10 or so.  True?  If so, is he bringing back the par 3?

If you could scan it and send it to me that would be great.

Jeff:
I think Foster's engagement is with Garden City Country Club, not Garden City Golf Club.

Sean,

You're right.  Also a Travis design, which fooled me.  Sorry about that.

Slightly O/T, but the Confidential Guide is losing some cult status. It only went for 250 British pounds in the recent auction.

I hope it continues its plunge, perhaps I will be able to find a copy for my personal library at a reasonable price!

So does the scenic wonder of Turnberry and the haunting incredibility of Prestwick, and the pleasant deception of Troon. But put them altogether and St. Andrew's can play their low ball for atmosphere." Dan Jenkins

Ryan,

Are you playing in the Butler Cup again this year?  If so I can bring up my copy and you can read it.  Takes all of ten minutes.

It's 2008.  What's a library?  If it isn't on the internet, it isn't worth reading.

And sometimes if it is.
