Sports Illustrated Golf Plus, re-Architecture
« on: July 09, 2002, 11:58:51 PM »
The July 8 issue on page G6 featured golf course architecture in the article titled "Senior Moment",Don Pooley held off Tom Watson to win a U.S. Senior Open that no one will soon forget. They state -the Open was played on an interesting and telegenic course.(One beef:Tom Fazio-designed Caves Valley is littered with bunkers.)
No comment on the course or the architect, but elation that the architecture is at last noticed and commented upon.

The "golf plus" edition of Sports Illustrated is also the edition that will soon be featuring an article on guess what? GOLFCLUBATLAS.COM!

The author, Jeff Silverman, put in a last minute call to me asking me exactly what I did for a living! That really took me by surprise--quite a long pause followed! Realizing I shouldn't exactly say I spend half my life on Golfclubatlas.com I told him just to say I was "retired"!

I think the "golf plus" edition comes out all the time--it's sort of an alternate edition I believe.

I just opened my July 15-July 22 double issue of Sports Illustrated and went to the GolfPlus section.  Golfclubatlas isn't mentioned.  Will be in the next issue, dated July 29th?

"Something has to change, otherwise the never-ending arms race that benefits only a few manufacturers will continue to lead to longer courses, narrower fairways, smaller greens, more rough, more expensive rounds, and other mechanisms that will leave golf's future in doubt." -  TFOG
