Metropolitan is famous for this.  Most dramatic bunkers cut right into the green surface I have seen or played.

The greenkeeper who made that famous at Metro, Richard Forsyth, has been at Royal Melbourne for several years now and is running the show this week.  We have been fortunate to work with a lot of great superintendents and Richard is one of the best.

I loved the comment by the TV announcer that there are no straight holes at RM.

On the subject of firmness. A public course that's designed and presented to play this way, in America, would quickly heed the wails of the "market" and soften their canvas to the point of an Un-repaired ballmark city hell.

Appreciate that Australians have a deeper respect for the Sport of Golf. Their steadfastness, not caving on principles, must be at that root.

I didn't realize #1 was playing as a long par 3. Impressive length, but moreso the philosophy that the "rough" short of the green actually is playing hard and allowing balls to run through. Woodland and Johnson hit right there and ran through pretty easily.

Is anyone aware of a Composite course overlay that shows the holes/routing used for this event?  I know it bounces back and forth from West to East and I'd like to examine them more on Google Earth...

Thanks in advance!
