William Flynn owned, designed and built Marble Hall Golf Links, which opened in 1924.  I believe this was the first public golf course in suburban Philadelphia.

Was this the course that Green Valley ultimately bought at auction when they moved the club from their Willie Park course a few miles down Ridge Pike?

According to Jim Finegan, the original course was on the Harry Sacks property at Ridge Avenue and Livezey Lane in Roxborough with 145 acres to the north and south.  Jim says the original course was planned and built by the officers, directors and committees of the club, opening for play in 1921.  Perhaps Park, Jr. was involved, but I haven't come across information that supports it.  Do you have any?

I do not know for certain, but likely the origional architect owned the land upon which he built the 1st version of TOC? Wonder what he had in mind when he began? He certainly could not in his wildest dreams or nightmares have imagined where his idea for self-made entertainment might lead.

We do not even know his name.

Wonder what our efforts may leave behind 500yrs hence?

Is Flynn the earliest owner/architect in American golf?

While George Thomas designed Whitemarsh Valley CC on ground he once owned, it was given to him by his father when he turned 21, the estate was sold to members of the disbanded Mount Airy CC for their new club.  Maybe Georgie needed to buy some rose bushes  ;)
