Has anyone played CC of Farmington recently, and are there some vintage  Emmet green complexes still intact. Hows the terrain, movement,  and tree management

thanks

Though very far from recent, I played there in 1989 and am pretty certain that it had been untouched--though it was over treed.  The greens complexes were untouched at the time--this is an old yankee club that probably had not spent too much money on any of the facilities over the long years!  This was the first time I ever saw pros wearing oxfordcloth shirts and ties--not exactly my cup of tea, but it reflected the club's personality.

There are 9 original Emmett greens at the CC of Farmington.
They do not necessarily fall at the ends of original holes. The history of the botching of the original Emmett course is long and tawdry, frankly not worthy of discussion.

The remaining greens are quite good, especially the 5th, 6th, 11th, 14th and 16th. Eleven is my personal favoite and a prime example of a means in which to protect par on a short par four without venturing into the area of unfair.

Since 1989, the 2nd and 18th greens ahave been altered. Eighteen was altered twice. The new 18th works pretty well. Number 2 sadly was built in the Emmett footprint and does not fit the 19 yard uphill par three that it currently anchors.

The condition of the course is by far the best it has ever been.

The terrain is hilly and undulating on the seven holes east of Waterville Road (1-3, 15-18). The holes west of Waterville Road have some movement but most are on flat riverside plain.

At 6,500 or less it is a rather difficult par 71.

FYI:  John Murphy, the club's longtime pro, has just been elected PGA Golf Professional of the Year by the Connecticut Section PGA.  This award is long overdue for a fine gentleman, a true professional, and a mentor to countless pros over the years.

Pete,

Has Mr. Murphy retired?  I thought I had heard that he was planning it last year or this?  He is a very amazing gentleman.

Cheers,
Steve
