Scotland Ideas near Edinburgh?

You might try Wide World of Golf.  I believe Bill Hogan is still
the man.  He is very Knowledgeable and does an absolutely great job of making all the necessary arrangements.  I have used them twice.  Once for Scotland and once for the Liverpool area.  I won't go back without calling them.

Are you planning the trip on your own or through a travel company? I am starting to plan a trip for next summer as well, and could use some advice.  Plans to visit this year fell through, so... on to 2003. What month of the summer is best to travel?

ks02 - Wide World of Golf is who I've always used, am using this time, and Bill Hogan is the man indeed!  Getting us on Muirfield was indeed quite a coup.

Hogan is a good friend, my brother's college room-mate... small world indeed.

     It is a small world.  Does Bill still use Mark Rigg as his agent
in Scotland?  A great guy who wanted to make sure we got to do what we wanted i.e. a second round on the Old, a
round at Carnoustie, etc.

Ks2 - not sure who Bill uses as Scotland agent these days, I haven't asked and when I went in 1998 I did the planning myself.  Hogan did a great job on a 2000 Ireland trip for me...

I would not waste time on Braids #2 but I think #1 would be a great intro to "name" golf .

What a coincedence!  My wife and I are going to scotland next july for the following:
Arrive in Glascow and play Ailsa that day
Western Gailes the next day
Drive to Inverness for a day
Play Royal Dornoch one day
Play Cruden Bay and drive to St. Andrews
Play St. Andrews Old
Play Carnoustie
Play Kingsbarn
Go to edinburgh for 2 days (no golf - my wife drew the line, although I am hoping to sneak out for a day at Muirfield or somewhere) and fly back.  Interested in comparing notes

My final comment on your original note, you realy got a lot of good input for asking about 1 course to play on one day!!! Whichever one you choose, you almost can't miss. I hope all goes well for the trip.

If you don't go through a tour group, it's about a two year backlog to get on MUirfield. And if you attempt to go as a single, you'll be lucky to make it out of your car before being asked to leave.
