Sasha is a fine caddy and a great partner. Always in the game.
She knows the distance, the wind, ground game and the greens.
When Sasha reads it, and you execute, you will absolutely be pin high.
Oh yeah, Sasha knows what a redan is, and how to play it.
Mike Keiser calls her a "Star". 'Nuff said?

Mike,

If Mike Keiser cares no more about protecting his caddies then allowing pull carts at such a low fee why do you feel the need to protect them.  The fee structure promotes the dissing of caddies.

John
I'm afraid you know not of what you speak.  Mike's support and care for his caddie program @ Bandon is unquestioned.  The nicest "caddieshack" in the world and the best playing privileges in the business are only the tip of the iceberg.  I'm  sorry you had a negative experience with a caddie @ the resort and I respect your right to not take a caddie when your here.  But the overwhelming majority of our guests have an outstanding experience while here and often sight their caddies as high points.  I won't engage the idea that a newbie by himself with a range finder has as high a chance of success as the same player with a caddie does, its just too silly.

Joe,

I had the same caddie for all three days at Bandon and he did a great job.  My only complaint was that I thought he was a poor value when compared to a pull cart.  I was pissed at my own stupidity, not at the caddie.

David -

I played Bandon last month and had good caddy experiences with Pat Fox (three rounds) and "Vegas" (can't recall his real name).

Pat has been there several years and previously caddied at Maidstone and National back East.  He is one of the more mature and professional caddies I've golfed with, which may be one of the reasons he was selected to caddy for the U.S. team at the Curtis Cup at Pacific Dunes last year.  Pat's experience, positive personality (which built everyone's confidence and helped us play our best), and humor (excellent repertoire of jokes for pretty much any situation on the course) definitely added to our Bandon experience.

I golfed one round with Vegas, so I didn't get to know him as well.  He has been at Bandon pretty much from the resort's start and previously caddied at Shadow Creek (thus the nickname) and has spent off-seasons at Cape Kidnappers.  He knew the course (Trails) backwards and forwards, and his outspoken personality provided some classic humor.  If you want a guy who knows his stuff and you won't be offended if he starts ragging on you for your mediocre game, salmon colored shirt (speaking from experience here), or whatever else, Vegas would be a great choice.

Any takers for a free round at Bandon Trails the morning of Tuesday 9/11.

What do the caddies out at Bandon make? Seems like most of them would do ok considering they do 36 a bunch.

I played a round recently w/ a kid who spent last summer caddying at Bandon. He carried doubles for 36 holes a day and made $75 per golfer per round - $300 day!  Those are good tips ;)  That's more than 10 times what I made the one summer I caddied as a kid at Inverness GC near Chicago.

So did I!

My 2 cents...  If I'm paying thousands of $$$ for a golf vacation, I'll add the caddy.   Playing with a good caddy is golf joy.  Golf joy at Bandon is out of this world bliss.

Mankato Andy saved me at least 5 strokes per round in 2005.  Don't know if he's still there - I had the feeling that as a young guy he was still a nomad of sorts.  But a wonderful guy with a lot of game.  He understood the game of golf and was far more than a basic looper.

We played with a twosome that drew "Big Ed".  He was also very good.  A former dryland wheat farmer from Baker City, OR, he moved to Coquille and took up looping.  Nice guy and also a damn good caddy.

But they aren't all that good.  We played with a twosome at Trails with a guy that was nothing more than a bag carrier.

Have fun!  A good caddy can take your trip of a lifetime to the next level.

PS - It also makes playing 36 a helluva lot easier if you're not carrying yourself.

Hi all,

Just got back from Bandon - I am debating posting my thoughts on the course but figured I would post here.  We had four caddies for most of six rounds we played.  I had Aaron Moreno (Great tip Jason).  He was as good a caddie as I have ever had and we had a blast picking on him and teasing him.  He truly is extraordinary at his job.  Mikey had Pete Bauer (Another great tip Mr. Daley).  He was an absolute prince and terrific at his job.  We met up with his wife one night in town.  No surprise but a great family man as well.  Jimmy had Sasha and was quite content.  I disagree with any over rated comments.  She ended up with the flu and we got a replacement who was a young kid named Marcus.  He is still learning the place but I would comfortably recommend him to anyone.

On the down side, we also had the single worst caddie I have ever come across.  He was a musician and I have blanked out his name.  He was a late substitution and tried to sabotage the experience for us.  I finally had his player tell him that if he said one more criticism to Jimmy or I, he was done and could walk in.  I have never done that before.  What a bitter prick.  On 17, frankly I was pissed enough that I actually considered throwing a punch.  We decided to walk the last round, so as to never see him again.

My conclusion, if your caddie has a face that looks like he has lived way too hard a life and says he is a musician, run.  If not, caddies were certainly worth several shots a round and defintely worth the $80+ that they cost (Especially Aaron, Pete and Sasha).

Great stuff, Dave.  I guess my reticence to recommend caddies too much is in my previous trips we tended to get too many "musicians" and not nearly enough Aarons, Petes and Sashas.  I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

I'm on my way to Bandon next week and have decided to just take whatever caddie gets assigned to me (unless he's a musician whose face portrays the story of a hard life).

Funny though, I found a photo of Sasha at flickr.com ;) Is this THE Sasha that everyone raves about?

R.

This is not a great picture. Believe me, she is very attractive, a good caddie and a nicer person.  I would recommend her to anyone and believe that they would be happy with the recommendation.

Here is a slightly better picture of her.  One of my buddies had her for a caddie and called her the best caddie he has ever had.

She's engaged fellas.  Get over it.  Aren't there any girls in (insert where you live here)?  I also don't see how this pertains to golf course architecture at all.

Joe,

I assume you are not referring to me.  This thread was started because I asked for advice on caddies.  My comments on Sasha were strictly related to how she was as a caddie.  I thought she was pretty darn good.

We played the Bandon courses last week. We had 8 guys playing and 7 of us requested caddies for each round. Caddies were assigned to players the 1st day and stayed with their players for the duration of our stay - 7 rounds. My caddie experience was not good so I "retired" my caddie after 3 rounds. One of the other guys "retired" his caddie after 4. The other guys all had great experiences with their caddies.

The standout caddie by far was Pete Bauer, who has been mentioned in this thread several times. It hasn't been mentioned that Pete is a driftwood sculptor and former Vietnam pilot. Some of his sculpture is on display in one of the art galleries in Bandon. I just mention these two facts to point out that he's a very interesting guy to spend time with, in addition to being a great caddie. You will not go wrong with Pete.

I'm glad someone found good pictures of this Sasha person. From my limited searching skills, I was forced to conclude that she looked a lot like Kenny from "South Park."
