US Amateur @ Olympic scoring
« on: August 20, 2007, 02:40:34 PM »
Monday:   We are starting off with a short fog delay.   Yesterday the course was playable even with low fog.

Scoring can be located at www.usamateur.org

Its always interesting no matter what the course of who goes low and how did they do it.  At the US Junior Amateur in 2003 Brian Harman shot 67 in the opening round which was 4 shots better than anyone else in the field.   He walked away with the medal but was beat in the match play.

Short?  3 hours ... which means many won't finish their rounds today ...

-4 on the Ocean course and -2 on the Lake course are the current leaders which I would expect.  A lot of players did not finish due to the fog delay.  A few scores,

Sam Saunders - even after 9 holes
Gary Wolstenhome  -3 after 9 holes
George Zahringer  -1 after 9 holes
Colt Knost  -1 - finished
Jamie Lovemark  +3 finished
David Easley +20 on the Lake finished

They are off again and hopefully everybody will finish today.  Weather in the high 60's low 70's.  A kid from Argentina ended up leading after the first day with 4 under on the Ocean course.  It all goes out the window after today and they start match play.

Looks like +5 might make match play???

Have to love George Zahringer, a plodder and thinker which is perfect for Olympic and is among the leaders.

+5 was tied for 61st after round 1, right? The 64-player cut might be a shot or two higher since the majority at +5 or better played the Ocean course, which based on the scores was definitely playing easier than the Lake.

Could be although the field is split evenly among the two courses.  Looks like +4 might play off.  The leader from yesterday, Goya from Argentina shot 66 on the Ocean and 78 today on the Lake.
