Thanks for your comments.  

I suspect all but us two have lost interest in this topic.

Suffice to say that I think good design and mass market appeal are not incompatible.  Apple Computer, valued at $100 billion, was built on the principle that exemplary design = superior products = mass market appeal = great profitable company.  

I think that the TOC is not considered a "pasture" by most golfers and that it couldn't have lasted so long without having universal appeal.  

Based on your comments and Forrest's original take on the term "retail golfer" I suspect you're all sick of hearing the term or something like it to justify nonsense.  I sympathize with that.  Perhaps on those assignments you might be inspired to see if you can convince the offending party that the "retail golfer" doesn't really want fountains, he wants as you put it "fun."
