Grizzly Ranch

I had the pleasure to play a newer course in the high sierras this weekend that I would add to any trip to Reno or North Shore of Tahoe. A website with pictures of the holes is listed above. It is a private club but allows reciprocal play or you can take a real-estate tour of the lots and homes around the property and pay the guest fee as I did. The Bob Cupp design is very challenging and stretches to 7400 yds, multiple tees for every skill level. Pine tree lined fairways with subtle changes in elevation, beautiful vistas, natural looking creeks and ponds come into play on several holes. Hole 12 is a 600+ elevated tee par 5 that I would consider one of the best in NorCal. Conditions were immaculate on the fairways and tees, large greens were smooth but a little dry and firm. I would rate the course better than Edgewood, Coyote Moon or Old Greenwood. I haven't played Montreaux or Lahontan privates in that area so I can't compare it to those, but I would make it a must play on a visit to Reno, it's about an hour east on Hwy 70 or from Northshore Tahoe also about an hour north.
Also played Nakoma Resort, formerly the Dragon, course is in bankrupcy for sale for $18 mil and according to locals, suiters are waiting for the price to come down. Unfortunately course is starting to show the lack of money coming in, greens and traps need work but are playable, fairways and tees are still in great shape, still a tough track. Hopefully someone will buy the place soon and get it back to championship standards.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Thanks ...

Matt as I said I haven't played or seen Lahontan, but I would descibe it as a cross between Greenwood and Coyote Moon, more playable and not as exteme as Coyote, but more hazards than Greenwood and much more rolling with subtle elevation changes.

Tim  thanks for  report.  Evan Green , a well travelled gca poster  whose opinion I value, also spoke highly of the Grizzly
